Tab-hijacking

I am so fed up of this site hijacking all the tabs that are open when a game starts. If I am looking at multiple pages on the site, it is because I want to look at them. When a game starts and it opens in ALL the tabs, it destroys everything I was looking at. If I was writing a forum post, it is gone. If I was compiling a bug report, it is gone. This is just unbelievably annoying. I want it to stop. I filed a bug report more than a year ago, but nobody who could do anything about it has responded.
If anyone has any comment on some advantage they see in this tab-hijacking, I would love to hear it, because I see none. Also, if anyone knows of some browser setting that can prevent this behaviour, I would also love to hear it.

That does sound incredibly annoying. But I have never seen this, and also regularly have multiple tabs open. Admittedly I don't often play real-time games - but even when I do, it only opens on the tab I open it in, not on any of the others.
I am using Chrome, if that matters. It sounds like you may have some strange browser setting on but I'm afraid it's not immediately obvious what it might be.

I think this only happens for real-time games. I found this annoying, too, especially when writing in the forum.
As a tip: If you click the "Return to previous page" button in your browser in the tabs you had opened (after the game annoyingly started in that tab), you go back to where the tab was. It even saves the text you wrote for a forum post. At least it works for me in Firefox and Edge on desktop PC.

It depends of the game type : In Arena, you have no accept/decline choice, so the game is automatically loaded. On simple game, you accept on one tab and the others cvan get back to old page.
I agree it can be annoying, but as dschingis27 I go back in history and I have the text I was writing on bug report or forum.

Oh OK, thanks. Yeah I've never played Arena (always just play games with friends). I agree with the OP that this sounds really stupid and annoying for no real benefit, even if you can easily recover any lost data etc.

Well I guess the reasoning would be that it reduces the risk of a game getting started without your attention (which also gets complained about regularly), but I totally agree too that it‘s super-annoying and shouldnt happen.

Yes, it solves one problem, but creates another more annoying one.

Well yes, in the forums you still have your text. Though, if you were doing a translation in the waiting time, it automatically gets submitted. And it can be a pain to search for the exact same string again.
As others have said, it reduces the chance people miss a game start. And Bga decided consciously to implement this "feature" for that reason. Yes, it reduces usability of this site. But it works the way they want it to work

I'm using Chrome and my tabs don't go back to the old page. It's even worse, sometimes I get stuck in the accept window instead of continuing to the game table. That seems to happen when I accept the game on one of the other tabs. Nothing that F5 doesn't fix but it is annoying.

Yep, this happens to me too on Chrome. So often when I start a game, I do something like click accept, then close all my tabs, open a new Tab, click on the ongoing game in the top like, click on Go to game and then I can play. But i won't miss game start for sure

. A refresh on the active tab sometimes work too instead of closing+reopening.
