A while back, BGA has silently added an expiration date for Premium gift points earned through contributing to the site (e.g. translating) and first wins.

Even though the deadline is tomorrow (the 2nd of December), I have not received any notification about this. I would urge everyone to check their balance and redeem the points (the free months stack): https://boardgamearena.com/contribute

In my case almost 5000 points would have been lost if I hadn't redeemed them. Not exactly appreciative of members who have put in a lot of work.

I thought gift points expiry is 1 year from the day you earned those points?

Yes, but that only was introduced 1 year ago, so all older gift points expire today.

Fortunately I redeemed all 32492 points last year already

I understand that BGA doesn't like people keeping hundred's of gift points for later use. But what's the point of expiring 50 gift points from someone who's not an excessive user and maybe needs 2 years to learn enough games to get their free premium month? Those people can't ever do anything with their gift points. Not sure why that's desirable. Maybe give the option to get a free premium-day for 5 gift points or something like that. So at least there is SOMETHING those points can be spent on before expiration. Or only expire them if above 100.

Huh, I'm pretty sure I had points that would have expired early this year (I did use them fortunately)

Where did you read about the expiration date? I didn't know it, and most of my points are gone

I didn't know this was possible - I always redeemd points only for the next month of premium. Or is there anything else you could use the gift points for?

No, gift points are only for free premium. Now I'm premium until Jul 26th 2081.
