There were some turn issues, but at the end I finished 3rd (relatively new player) and received zero point vs the last player who got points.

The last player got +1 only because he/she had 0 at the beginning. You can only have 0 points when you have never played a (ranked) game. After your first game you'll always have at least 1, and as long as you are below 100, you never lose points (and you can never go below 100 once you've reached that).

(And this is for every game, not just Viticulture.)
