Suggestion for a New Tournament Format

With apologies, I posted this to "Suggestions" as well. It seems that Tournament Organization might be a better place for it?

For games like railroad ink, welcome to, etc, where an unlimited number of players can play, and all players play their turns simultaneously, I'd like to create a tournament format called "Battle Royale," "Melee," or something like that.

The format would be like multi-player elimination, except each round would be a single match among all remaining participants, with the top half advancing to the next round.

The current MPE format only allows 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 players to advance.

So:
Round 1 has a match with 17-32 players
The top 16 advance to a single round 2 match
The top 8 advance...
Etc until the final when 2 players are left.

I don't see any logistical issue with this format, since all 32 players would play their turns simultaneously, so a 32 player match will take the same amount of time as 16 two player matches.

But as best i can tell, the current MPE isn't quite flexible enough to accommodate this.

The simple change to MPE to allow this would be:

Max players: ALL REMAINING
Players to advance: Half of players [or, probably better, 2^(roundup(log2(N))-1)], this would ensure that, after the first round, there are always a power of 2 players remaining.
