Should diggers get one gold card each in the base game?

Post by Sammy McSam »

The 2004 official rules say: # gold cards = # players
The current 2013 official rules say: # gold cards = # gold diggers

The game designer, Frederic Moyersoen announced the Gold distribution new official rule on BGG in 2013.

The BGA base game (no variants) follows the old 2004 rules with the current 2013 rules as the 'New Mine' variant.

Should the BGA base game be updated to the current official rules?
Or default 'New Mine' to 'ON'?

Would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts..

Quote from the 2004 official rules:

"Handing out the gold
The gold-diggers have won the round if an uninterrupted path (of at least 7 cards) has been formed
from the start card to the goal card showing the treasure. Draw as many gold nugget cards (face down)
as there are players – e.g., five cards if there are five players. (However, in a 10-player game, draw only
nine nugget cards).
The player who reached the goal card with the treasure gets these gold nugget cards and chooses one
card. Then he passes the remaining gold nugget cards counter-clockwise to the next gold-digger (not
saboteur), who also chooses a card. This goes on until all gold nugget cards have been chosen. It may
well be that some gold-diggers get more cards than others.
Optional Rule: Gold diggers who have a Sabotage-card (broken pickaxe, lamp or cart) in front of them at
the end of a round do not receive Gold cards when their team wins the round. The Gold cards are distributed only among the gold diggers who are not sabotaged. Saboteurs are not affected by this rule."

Quote from the current 2013 official rules:

"Handing Out the Gold
The gold miners win the round if there is an uninterrupted path from the
start card to the goal card that shows the treasure. If they do, the player who
played the last path card (that connected to the treasure) draws a number of
gold nugget cards
(face down) equal to the number of gold miners (e.g.,
5 cards if there were 5 gold-diggers), looks at them in secret, and chooses
1 card to keep. Then, he passes the rest of gold nugget cards counterclockwise to the next gold miner (not saboteur!), who also chooses
1 card and passes the rest—and so on until each gold miner gets 1 card."
