Why does the game ask you if you want to do a conversion?

I noticed that at certain times after my opponent makes a move, then I am asked if I want to do a conversion? Why is this?
It stops the game in order for me to decide if I want to or not.
Can’t you do a conversion on your turn whenever you want to?

My guess is, that there are certain situations when you might reach your maximum power, and so you would miss out on gaining power from a different player, all before your turn. So you'd want to convert a bit of power to gold in order to allow future power gains.

I don't know the exact timing and whether you can do a conversion in response to (but to happen before) a power gain. If not, then I guess it just asks you each and every power gain, although there could be some maximum calculation to know a power conversion would be futile and not bother a player in certain situations.

I'm talking Terra Mystica, never actually played Gaia Project

There are three settings dropdowns underneath the user boxes. The bottom one lets you decide when you want the game to prompt you to convert; by default it does so whenever you're on maximum power. (Unfortunately the implementation overlooked an edge case, so if all of your power is in the Gaia area it will prompt you even though you have no conversion available).

If all your power is in your Gaia bowl, you may still have ore or QIC conversions available.
