In the middle of a game and for the life of me I can't figure out how to put my sheep in a shed. Do they stay on your side board? What about breeding?

Yes, for purposes of the BGA adaptation, they stay in your supply. For breeding, you simply need to follow the breeding rules. So if you have two cows at the end of round 2, one flips to the pregnant side. In round 3, you can upgrade the non-pregnant cow to a jacket if you want, and the pregnant cow will still produce a new cow tile in the breeding phase. That is, your animals don’t need companionship, a common misconception being that you have to keep a breeding pair to make a new animal. This isn’t true, you simply need the pair during breeding phase.

Here’s a good example of how to turn two cows into four jackets (3x4 green tiles).

Round 2, get your first cow.
Round 3, get your second cow. In breeding phase, one flips to pregnant.
Round 4, you upgrade the non-pregnant cow to a jacket, and in breeding phase your pregnant cow makes a new cow. So you enter the next round with two cows again.
Round 5, you keep your cows intact, so one becomes pregnant in breeding phase.
Round 6, you upgrade the non-pregnant cow to a jacket, and in breeding phase your pregnant cow makes a new cow, so you enter round 7 with two cows again.
Round 7, upgrade your last two cows to jackets.

In this way, you have turned two cow purchases into four jackets. You can also double upgrade cows to loot tiles (3x4 blue) if you need the blue and/or have a card to play, by using the 4 Viking double upgrade spots.

Everything I wrote here also applies to sheep, except they’re smaller, and it’s possible to buy two sheep in round one, which could potentially translate to five hides or jewelry over a game.
