parallel support for color choice

I am accustomed to selecting a particular preferred color, and until recently I'd never played with someone who beat me to it. Now in my turn-based game I have to have a standing note pop up: "Remember you're green!" but why? There is no reason the game can't show me blue and show her blue as well, other than some coding complexity.

I found another thread, which unfortunately is locked, but which hits exactly on what I came here to ask about:

Is it that complex? If so, I think color choice should be removed completely rather than having it depend on who starts a table. In some games, it actually doesn't matter (it's text on the side about what has happened), but in games such as Caylus where the color of buildings or existing markers indicates friend or foe, it's confusing as all get out.

It would be as much confusing if player couldnt refer to other players by using their color in a discussion during/After a game.

A middle ground would be to allow for lots more colors. Some games might not allow it as they only want the colors provided in the actual game, but if games allowed it, upping the possible colors could help this as it would just create fewer possible conflicts.

I like that idea!
