New BGA "omnibar" search

Post by sourisdudesert »

We are proud to introduce today a new navigation feature for BGA: the Omnibar search.

Image

As you know, for months now we have been changing BGA little by little to make it more modern, intuitive and easy to use. In particular, we recently made changes to the general design, to the top right player menu, and to the friends menu.

The Omnibar is a new step in this direction. In allows you to search for any game, for any player, or for any group from anywhere on the website. This way, you can access almost any page on BGA that you want in just a few clicks.

The BGA team really liked this change, and we hope you will like it too. As usual, please do not hesitate to provide some feedback below, so we can identity issue and improve things even more.

Quick Q&A:

Is this Omnibar in its final state?

Mostly yes, but we will still work on some details.

Are the "Find a player" / "Find a group" in the "Community" section going to disappear?

Yes, the Omnibar replaces them.

I am an Alpha game reviewer and the menu element disappeared

The menu item to access the review games has moved from the main menu to the "community" page.

I am a game developer/publisher and I cannot access the "Control Panel" anymore?

The control panel menu item has moved, both on the studio and on the BGA website.

It is now available in the player panel:

Bonjour

Seems to be a nice change. However, one pertinent question: what do the dice on the bottom left do? :)

I love the search bar!
However the animated text-filling is indeed a bit irritating and not needed to identify it as search-bar. Maybe instead you can put a static text of "search for games/players/groups" or something like that?

I agree that the auto-text-filling is not necessary (and at least on my computer crosses over into other areas of the screen unless I change my magnification to 80% or less).

It kind of feels like the function to get a random game to play is drawing from a much shorter list of games instead of from all games in the site -- after giving it a hundred rolls it really feels like it's skewing heavily towards the most known games of the website, with Jaipur repeating around seven times, Downforce appearing five, and the rest being the most known games on the site mixed with traditional card games, repeating two or more times, with more obscure/less popular games appearing only three times -- and two of those times were Coinche.

Maybe it suggest games with open tables, so you have more chances to get a game quickly? It would make popular games suggested often as there is often an open table
