Gurus

I think Gurus are a great implementation but it needs some improvments imo.

At the moment, we can become a guru in a game or loose this status at anytime during season, depending on how much we play.
There are two main issues :

- We can start a season being a guru, making a suggestion or a vote for next season arena format, and then loose the guru status and not be able to see what is going on with our suggestion... Also we can become a guru in the last days of a season when suggestions are already locked.

- Other concern is that sometimes, in a game when a player is really strong, he only needs a few games to reach the top of arena ranking. Then he decides to stop playing this game and do something else. Then he looses his gurus status and it looke like a punishment for being too good. I understand that we can keep the guru status by playing the game in non-arena format. But most players playing for XP play many games and stop playing a game for a season when they are sastified with their ranking.

So my suggestions to improve this :
-Make the guru status last one full season.
-At the end of a season, new gurus are elected based on number of games played during the past season AND on rankings. All players that got a TOP X trophy in the season automatically become a guru for the full following season. And the top 20 elo all time are also elected.
-Last but not least, many gurus don't even know what a guru is and where they can do somehing with it. Make it more obvious, like a tab we see all the time.

How does one know they are a guru? I saw a notification for thanking me for being a guru and that I am no longer one for a game I didn’t even know I was a guru for.

I agree with a lot of what Palapapa said. But it was announced that being a guru will not only serve for "making a suggestion or a vote for next season arena format". So it also depends on what the other plans are.

Funny enough I was guru for 2 games and never play in arena

I was guru for a game I played twice and lost in both cases :D
Improvements as Palapapa sugested look reasonable.

I only found out I was a guru in a game when it expired. I had no idea this was a "thing". I looked and I see I'm currently one for another game but again had no idea about it until I lucked into it just now.

I love the idea, and want to contribute and offered my services a few times, but there is not a lot of communication I receive OR I'm getting it but are not sure where to see it.

Thanks,

Dave

Honestly, BGA, your guru experiment has been an ill-conceived failure. You're just embarrassing yourself by stubbornly sticking to it. Let it quietly disappear without a trace, and we promise to never bring it up again.

I think the biggest problem of the guru concept is that it will be a spiralling system:
Gurus decide on a way to play a game. Players who don't like the way will not play it and therefore never get in the position to decide with the gurus.

Why not let a much broader playerbase decide on arena modes? Like everybody with 200+ game rating?

My pitch is: let Gurus suggest the Arena changes, let all silver+ players vote on them
