Instant action not usable during main action

This is clearly allowed in the rules..just made me lose the bonus of an assistant..in a tournament match..and cost me the game..because the research bonus was a card draw i could not take the turn back and i could not use the compass before upgrading the assistant..that sucks...please fix it
