Stop the war

Hi everyone. I realise this is as off-topic as you can get, but it's a serious matter I'm posting about here. I do not wish to start a political argument on our games forum, but in a gesture of solidarity and support for the people of Ukraine while they fight for their homeland, I have changed the nationality on my profile. There are players on this site from Ukraine who are possibly right now unable to make moves because they are defending their homes. My thoughts are with you.

Please protect Ukrainian players from bad karma. Especially in turnbased games or tournaments where they aee now unable to play. I think it will be the least of their worries but in the hope they may be able to return to the site one day.

I’ve had wonderful interactions on this site with people all across the globe. My thoughts to all whose lives are being disrupted right now.

I’ve followed suit and changed my nationality in support as well.

I agree Ukranians should not be punished by bad karma...but I see others in this same thread saying they changed their nationality to Ukranian. Now how does the site know which players to give bad karma and who doesn't?
This gives non-Ukranians leeway to farm bad karma by being late, but without consequence by just changing your nationality on the site.

That's a good point - so the right solution would be to exempt players who had Ukraine as their nationality as of February 23rd. Not sure if it's possible or easy for BGA to apply that.
I'm sure having bad karma on a boardgame site is the very last thing Ukrainians are worrying about right now though

If you click on the player name, it brings up their profile. I have put notes on my profile that explains I am from UK and have changed nationality as a gesture of support, so if I do have time / karma issues, it'll be obvious I am not Ukranian in reality. Best I can offer I guess!
