100% agreed. It is a classic that launched many game mechanisms we love and it drove countless people into the hobby. But looking at it in today's boardgaming world, it is so clunky and for each element of it, there are much better games out there today.

Yet it will bring new players to BGA that only play Catan, and it will allow them to discover the wonderful world of modern games, so everyone's winning here

Catan introduced me to the hobby in 2003, and playing a seven-game league that ended in a double-elimination tournament got my online gaming group through the pandemic in 2020.
