I always get a „Karma“ benalty without any obvious reason

Hi,

I get a Karma warning almost after every second finished game. :(

What is the reason for this? Has anyone a similar experience?

What can I do against this?

Please help!

Best regards
Paul

Can you provide an example? (Just copy the link to the finished game here.)

For instance the game just before

https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=251075402

After this game a -20 punishment popped up and it was not the first time :( :?

Maybe the "pop-up"-screen was just a bit delayed and was in fact about your game just before that, where you have quit / were expelled.

I don’t think so.
Its more likely correlated with the internet connection.

On your profile, you can see this:

14 quits and 32 time-outs
(On 494 recent games)

You can click on the 494 recent games line to see which games you actually got a penalty for. The game you mentioned is not listed with a karma penalty. But the game before that is. That's why I think it's just a delayed pop-up and not a penalty for your new (finished) game.

The thing is: during the game, you never get any pop-ups. But when the game finishes, you return to the main site. I think maybe, the pop-up was "queued" there and you got it as soon as you returned to main site which accidentally makes you think it's a result of the new game, which it wasn't.

Probably, thats correct.
But stoped games are due to bad connection and that is not a matter of „Karma“
I am sensitive in this respect.
I dont know how to differ between an active exit out of a game and an unintended fall out but it would be better.

Thanks for helping me to clarify this.

But your connection is in your responsibility. If it's very rare that your connection breaks, then it won't hurt your karma much. You get -20 karma in that game - but you won't have a problem to get back to 100 if it happens in less than 1 in 20 games. So it won't have a lasting effect on your karma. It happens to everyone once in a while.

But if you have issues with connection very often, then you need to act differently. You cannot just jump into games, when the chance is high that the connection breaks. This is what you can do when you have bad connection in general:
a) play slower time-setting
b) if slow real-time is still not enough, play turn-based games
c) if you want to play real-time anyway: inform your opponnents that your connection might break and ask them if it's ok for them to wait/abandon/switch to turn-based if that happens. Best to ask before the game starts
d) only play with friends who you know won't skip you when you're out of time

Great advice there from SIlene. Out of their advice, I'd strongly suggest that you always play turn-based.

It is really frustrating for the other players to have somebody just disappear out of a game. A lot of players will only okay with players with good reputation, so if you switch to turn based your reputation will get better and you'll have your reputation right up to 100% in time and have more people to play with as a result :)
