Tournaments are flawed

I have enjoyed just about everything on BGA until I tried my first Tournament. I was kinda excited to try it out.

So what happens?

3 of the 5 players NEVER play. We never even rolled the dice on Space Base. I and 1 other select our starting cards and then the game NEVER advances. No way to skip or quit like normal game for some reason. So of course, what do you think happens after that? EVERYONE except I advance to next round and "I" am the only one marked as a loser. Totally stupid system.

You can normally skip players who have timed out in a tournament, like any other game. Sounds as if you encountered a bug.

And had either of the active players skipped one of the others, the skipped player would not have advanced, and you would.

Tournaments here do have a lot of flaws, with slow/inactive players, but give them another chance, as your experience is not typical.

(I think tournament activity/reliability varies a lot with the game too. I have played several Castles of Burgundy and Innovation tournaments and almost never had opponents go MIA. In some other games, it's pretty common.)

There should be a bigger karma penalty for abandoning a tournament game.

What I do is that I try to only play "multiplayer elimination" tournaments. That solves the problem of "people who sign up for tournaments but don't play", because they get knocked out after the first or second round.
