Fire varan cards?

I don't understand what to do with these. Can anybody help explain? Thanks

They aren't meant to help you. It's simply a card with a solitary symbol.
They are meant to punish you if you don't have enough water to fight the fires in the forest.

You can get rid of them using fragments (cross tokens) during the draw phase. After each drawn card, if you have fragments, you can use one to discard the card you just drawn, or if it's a fire varant, to remove it from your deck.
