Why was the 2 player variant for Sushi Go Party removed? I can now only choose it for classical Sushi Go.

The 2p variant (as it was described in Sushi Go) isn't in the Sushi Go Party rulebook.
Instead, there are menus that are specifically tailored for 2 players (Dinner for Two, Sushi Go!, Party Sampler or My First Meal)

You'll need to select one of these menus first, then reduce the number of players to 2.

I know about the menus suggested for 2 players, but we still played it a lot with 2 player variant from original Sushi Go. It's much better experience than starting with 10 cards right away.

Agreed - the two player variant from the base game still works well with the Sushi Go Party set, IMO.

Probably because BGA doesn't allow unofficial rules and variants, but sad to see it go when Saboteur can keep max sabs (correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is a unofficial variant)
