Automatically turn down impossible trades option?

I know it potentially gives away information about what you might have, but especially for turn based games the option to automatically refuse trade for things you don’t have would be nice. It would save on tedious non-event alerts and likely speed the game up.

I've just been setting my alerts to only notify me if someone is wanting something I actually have (and willing) to trade. And keep that set until I receive new resources. Cuts down on the unnecessary notifications. I just have to remember to set it each time I'm in.

You don't have to wait for all other players to respond. I usually just wait 5-10 seconds and if there's no response then I cancel the offer myself.

I'm talking more about turn based games than real time - in real time games we tend to do most of the trading in voice chat and then finalise in the interface as it is faster and more fun.

Turn based games and Catan? Since trading and human interaction is such a huge part of the game then playing turn based is not really viable whatever system you use.

I think it might work, if there was a sort of automated decline timer (random 3-5 seconds maybe) for impossible trade offers. So if I have no wood and somebody asks for wood, after 3-5 seconds (not fixed to keep information more secret) the system declines for me.
But there should definitely be an instant auto-decline if somebody has no resources at all. But still show the offers and trades, since it's public information.
