LAGGY PLAYERS

What can be done about players who take the whole time to have their go and do it only seconds before timing out? This has been happening a great deal of late. It does not make for a good game and I believe is intended to distract. Which it does. As the player had been doing this I went to attend to a sick child thinking I had a minute or so .. player didnt even ask if I was still there... as I had just done a couple of times for
him ...
Some people!! Its an unfair tactic and BGA seem to have no worries about it.. Something should be done about it. Especially as it seems to be becoming a regular thing. Unless its all the one player.
Its a blatant misuse and abuse.

If people are taking too long to make their moves, your option is to play games with more restrictive time limits.
Players have their entire thinking time available to make their moves.
If they aren't allowed to take their entire time, the rules on time become useless. Imagine going to a coffee shop with a big sign that said "Coffee, $5," and then them saying they wanted more for the coffee. "Yeah, the rules say one thing, but it really means something else. We know we said we were going to charge $5 for this coffee, but since most people end up paying more we expect you to pay $7.

What can be done? Red thumb them, and you won't encounter them again.
Other than that, it's not against the rules to make a move at the last second, or to expel players out of time.

Thanks..If players time out or take a long time to play I usually offer turn based. All sort of reasons someone may be afk for a moment or so .. isnt that part of the purpose of having turn based? So that if there is a prob you dont get booted and lose rep? Players choice, I understand.
A lot of the time, the other player will take the tb offer or communicate. These players are not of whom I speak! Lol - Im referring to those who use it as a distraction tactic so they can then boot you ... Ive had admissions to that .. more than once .. Ive even had say timing guidelines and some bugs are there to be exploited .. ??
It is just pretty frustrating offering others the benefit of a few secs or a minute only to have them so desperate to win they kick you when yo already have a tb option - they take the second they can to get a chance to boot you for some imaginary glory lol .. its a game .. games are for fun .. and as far as I know there are no prizes - no sheep stations ... no cash.. lol so it is bizarre to me that folk do this kind of thing ...
RED THUMB:
I did in fact try to do so. But it came up with notification that it was his first game and therefore could not be red thumbed. However, I find this confusing as his ELO for the game is 225.. 120 odd above mine. lol .. and he did not have the text saying his time is doubled etc - so how could he not be red thumbed??
I sent to bug topic in case this is what happened.

Welcome to the Internet. Enjoy your stay.
I'm certain there have been psychology doctoral students who got a PhD studying this phenomenon. If not, there's a topic for you grad students. You're welcome.

I've also come across players who have obviously delayed their moves (each of them!) deliberately until the last few seconds. I gave them their own medicine - and made them wait as well. The problem was then cured very quickly and they played at a reasonable pace. Of course I red thumbed them afterwards as well.

I've had this issue as well, the displayed error is incorrect. Apparently you can't publicly red thumb someone for a game that isn't finished yet. I play turn based games so if I want to avoid a player and the game isn't finished I give a "personal reasons" red thumb (no limits on those) and then once the game is finished change it to an "all players" red thumb.

Its terrible, the site needs to do something about it, and the players who play good openings, and the ones who know their endgame theory, and all those players who are good at tactics, and everyone who plays moves I don't like. It is just awful and terrible that the site allows people to follow the rules of games and doesn't force them to play according to my arbitrary whims.

I don't think it's fair to complain about people taking the allowed thinking time everyone agrees on before the game started. Their are plenty of games I want to learn and don't fully understand because the rules are complex, the tutorial is inadequate or I'm having a difficult time navigating the unfamiliar GUI. I get that this can be frustrating but they aren't doing anything wrong either. I have gotten complaints from high level players that have hundreds of wins just for me taking half the time too. It's not fun when someone tells you to hurry up and play as they trounce you and you're trying to figure out something you can do. This happens a lot in games like great western trail.
