Was wondering what people thought about displaying the usernames/ELO of CURRENT players in the Top 8 (regardless of account status).

I understand restricting access is in the hopes of earning donations, but at the same time, revealing the usernames of top 20 players will give users a large incentive to play more games, be more active, and therefore increase the traffic to the site.

Just some thoughts.

Unfortunately, it only displays the ELO before game. While in game, you cannot see the ranking of the top 8. I just played the number 5 player in Quoridor and his ranking AND prestige is invisible because he is a standard user.

It would be a beneficial feature to the site to give top 8 in each game standard membership for as long as they remain in top 8. This would create a lot of incentive for users to LEARN and PLAY less popular games, making these games more competitive and enjoyable.

Oh, just having BGA membership also means access to stats, rankings and scores to see ALL players

Right. I think giving membership to top 8 would increase the incentive to learn the new games and increase activity and skill level all around to compete for those lucrative spots.

That wouldn't increase the competitiveness of the less played games. I became a top 10 player in Quoridor within a single day. This means there needs to be some sort of incentive to increase competition on those lesser-played games. Because now there are only 5-10 users that have a high enough ELO to play in Quoridor.

You will probably end up with the first 8 players being cheater, that is all.
I am may be pessimistic but honestly, there are already cheaters without anything to gain being ranked among the firsts

I take it your generally on nr. 8?
joking aside, i think it's a good idea and would like to have a top 10 revealing the usernames. however, it's not like the contribution for all the hours spent on here is particularly high
