How do I use a wild card?

I know this game extremely well, have played the physical game countless times.

So far the routes I have built in my first BGA game, I have had the correct coloured cards. Now I want to build a white card + wild to beat my opponent to it. No amount of clicking on the route lets me do that. I've tried pre-selecting my single white card, and pre-selecting a wild card, but I cannot get that route built. How do I use 2 cards to build a small route, one wild, and one white?

If you have not enough white cards, it will autocomplete with wild cards. You just have to let the game do it for you :)

Thanks, I figured it out. The problem is that we were playing a 3-player game, which means the second line of the same route is not used. As soon as one route is taken, the other is auto-filled with Do Not Enter signs. As luck would have it, the line I wanted to take was only 2 segments long and was mostly hidden behind the trains of another player, so I couldn't see the Do Not Enter signs. We hadn't filled any other double-route yet, I had nothing else to compare it against. I kept clicking on the mostly-hidden line wanting to use one white card and one wild, but nothing happened.

As soon as another double-route was played, it became very clear.

Thank you for posting this query! I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to claim a route because it never occurred to me that little black dots were supposed to mean the route couldn't be claimed in a 3-player game, and it was only when I came here that I got a clue.
