Essen Spiel 2022 meetup / improvements on Studio support

Post by joezg »

Thanks for being part of this wonderful community!

We would like to introduce you to some changes to the BGA studio processes designed to improve your BGA Studio experience, and also to invite you to hang out with us during the Spiel in Essen.

Studio processes improvements
Since the lockdowns started in 2020, we have been overwhelmed with volunteer developers who joined BGA Studio and their requests. We are very grateful to all of you for that. Even now we are welcoming at least two new developers a day, and you can imagine that number was significantly higher during the lockdowns.

With the current stuff and processes designed in the early stages of BGA Studio we simply could not fulfil all of your requests in a satisfactory manner; therefore, we, unfortunately, needed to prioritize some requests. We are not happy with this and are thankful for your understanding.

These improvements will take a gradual approach, similarly to how we are currently improving the main BGA site. We will introduce changes, analyse feedback and the effects of those changes and then fine-tune them if needed and go to the next iteration. The first changes are already implemented. They concern the most common tasks: alpha / beta deploys, art requests, and bounty reward claims.

The most important change is that these requests will be handled through <b>a ticketing system</b>, with a queue and with a <b>dedicated time</b> for fulfilment. For alpha and beta deploy requests you should use the new buttons introduced on the Manage page on the Studio, in the "Versions available for production" section. Art requests and bounty reward claims will be requested the same way as before (on the Available licenses and Bounty hunting pages, respectively), but will be handled in a new way.

This is the new schedule for common requests:
  • Tuesday: alpha and beta requests
  • Wednesday: Art requests
  • Thursday: Bounty Hunting
  • Friday: beta and art request follow-ups with publishers
We will ensure dedicated time on these days to fulfil as many requests as possible. Some requests will still need some time to be resolved as they involve the publisher's input. Since most of the team is in Essen this week, the mentioned weekly schedule will be activated next week.

For other requests, please use the new support page for BGA Studio which sends your request directly to our ticketing system. Please do not use emails or discord anymore to initiate the requests, as we are giving priority now to this new tool.

We plan to establish many more automated processes in the future, but we are excited about this first step (hopefully) in the right direction. Please send any feedback or suggestions to the studio mailbox.

<ins>Essen meetup</ins>
A part of the BGA team will be at Essen Spiel this year and we would like to meet with you! We are planning a meetup on Friday, October 7th, after the Spiel closes in a location close to Messe Essen.
We would like to restrict this meetup only to developers that have at least one game deployed on BGA (alpha is enough). Therefore we kindly ask you to fill out the form below if you would like to participate, and we will send you all the meetup details by email.

If you really want to join, but don't fulfil the mentioned requirements, please fill out the form and add the days you will be at Essen in the note field, and we will try to schedule a meetup with you as well.

We hope that a lot of you would be at the Spiel and that we will finally meet you face to face!

Playfully,
the BGA team
