Tying for second place

I just finished a game where I tied for second place - the scores were 50, 49, 49. But at the end of the game, I was ranked 3rd instead of 2nd and lost 49 XP while the person that I tied was ranked 2nd and gained 1 XP. There's no tie-breaker in the game (Sushi Go Party) so there's no reason that we both wouldn't be second. I'm kind of upset about all the XP I lost! Is this how it's supposed to go, or is it a bug?
Thanks for any help/thoughts!

It's wrong that there is no tie-breaker. There is one. And what it is can even be seen on the result-screen of the game

.
Don't be upset - it will probably be the other way around at some other time. Oh wait - it already happened a few games before
Btw you're not losing any XP. But you're maybe referring to your ELO? But you lost only 23, not 49 ...

In the game:

You can see in the bottom "(: Tie breaker: In case of a tie, whoever has the most dessert cards wins!)"
