"Online Near You" in Friends list

Some rando just popped up in my online friends list as "Online near you" - How can I turn this off and how can I be sure I am not popping up in this for others?
This feature has been removed in the most recent BGA website update.
[I know this issue was raised in earlier threads, but I'm not going to bump all those as well.]
