Reputation among new accounts

I found Boardgamearena a few days ago through a friend. We're both new to the site. We cannot understand why now I seem to have two points of reputation and she has zero.
We've played maybe a dozen games between each other, and I've additionally played one game of stone age with three people I didn't know in advance. My friend and I have both tried to give a thumbs up for each other. My profile shows I have two points of reputation, her shows zero. Why is this?
Is there some sort of rule that says thumbs up given by new members don't count, and my two reputation points are from the strangers I played Stone Age with, and both of the mutual points I've given to my friend and she's given to me are ignored? Or something else? Not being able to understand the reputation is a bit upsetting in an otherwise very nice gaming experience.
Best regards,
JonSavage

Maybe the other players ignores you, some players to finish the game do not give "thumb up"

.
Generally, when I end a game, I give thumb up (except when they disconnect or quit)

Thanks for the answer Oso. I seem to be getting more "thumb up"s the more games I play with players I don't know. My question is more about my friend, who has so far only played games with me. The bare-bones-version of my question is:
Me and my friend register on this site. We play a two-player game between us. After the game I click "I like and recommend this player" button next to my friend's name. After that, in various places in the site UI, I can see only a green thumb next to my friend's name, with mouseover implying "click to cancel". So on this level it seems like I've given some sort of recommendation to my friend. Should we expect that on my friend's profile we can see "1 thumb up", or "0 thumbs up"? The latter is what happens. Is this expected?

Your friend should have 1 green thumb, as you're correctly assuming. Is Jennyb the friend you're talking about? I see one green thumb on her profile, and as far as I can tell, she has played only with you, so the thumb is presumably from you.

Thanks for the answer. Jennyb is indeed the friend I was talking about. We did not see the green thumb for a long while after I had clicked recommend (not on the same day for sure, more likely several days IIRC). So the thumb-situation seems OK now, but not sure what was causing the behaviour we noticed.
Edit: the 0 thumbs up situation (as seen by both me and Jennyb looking at her profile) did persist for several days as it was what prompted me to write here on the 29th of March, and we still saw it on the 4th of April when my second post on this thread was written. The only things that have changed since that could sensibly have any effect towards fixing it is you responding here and perhaps investigating the matter, and that I reached the "Angel" level via my 3rd recommendation. I'm only making a note of these things in case someone is investigating the issue from the point of view of debugging problems on the system. For me and my friend the issue seems to have become fixed.
