Questions about changing a real time game to a turn based game

So yesterday I was playing a game of La Granja in Arena mode,

During my opponent's last turn of the game he got disconnected, I had no hurry so I decided to wait a for a few minutes.

After more than 10 minutes passed there were no signs of him returning, I clicked on the expel players out of time and saw the suggestion of changing the game to turn based. I wanted to see how the game would end so I turned it into a turn based game.

After the change, I check the timers for both players, plenty of time to finish the game, by the next day I would make the last play and finish the game, or so I thought.

That game had started yesterday, less than a day has passed since the change to turn based (about 18 hours I think) and yet when I log in I get the message that i had lost the game and that I should stay in the games until the end, what?

So I check the game and see that the other player expelled me, but how?, after changing to turn based I am sure I had enough time to log at around this hour and make the last play, I couldn't do it earlier because of sleep and work-

So what happened?

Did the other player change the game mode back to real time and expelled me? Can you change a turn based game to real time game by yourself without taking into consideration the other players?

Should I just ignore the option from now on and just kick the other player so I don't have to go through this bs again? I think I had a fair chance of winning that game, but I just wanted to see it played until the end.

Maybe you lost connection (or both), and while you thought the other player was doing nothing, he was actually expelling you?

No and no. Jellby's hypothesis seems reasonable.

This is a link to the game:

https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=318642895

I was on youtube watching videos while waiting for him to return, so I did have connection, I also saw the browser change to the turn based mode game. If you see the link, it will say that was the game mode-

Also it says the game lasted for 2 hours and 30 minutes and looking at the replay, he returned about 20 minutes after I was gone.

So did my timer run out in around 1 hour and 30 minutes in a just started turn based game? Is that what happened? I'm pretty sure the time was longer

Move 353 :12:25:32 AM
Brunompr delivers a grape to a barrow
Brunompr has fully supplied a market barrow.
Move 354 :12:25:37 AM
Brunompr places a marker in the market and gets a trade commodity
Brunompr receives 3 vp ( 2vp market barrow value / 1vp booting marker )
Move 356 :1:57:48 AM
James Burton is out of time, so Brunompr skips his/her turn
Move 357 :1:57:48 AM
James Burton has quit the game and is going to lose this game whatever happens.
You seem to have a case. The table says it's a turn based game, and it's obvious from the log that you both played many moves at 12:25.
So how does it time out in 1:30 hours?

With 'display thinking time' it's even more clear somethings wrong:
Brunompr: -16:12
Move 352 :12:25:30 AM
Brunompr delivers a grain to a barrow
Move 353 :12:25:32 AM
Brunompr delivers a grape to a barrow
Brunompr has fully supplied a market barrow.
Brunompr: -16:13
Move 354 :12:25:37 AM
Brunompr places a marker in the market and gets a trade commodity
Brunompr receives 3 vp ( 2vp market barrow value / 1vp booting marker )
Brunompr: -16:17
Brunompr: -16:19
James Burton: 3:48
Move 356 :1:57:48 AM
James Burton is out of time, so Brunompr skips his/her turn
Move 357 :1:57:48 AM
James Burton has quit the game and is going to lose this game whatever happens.
James Burton: -1h28
Brunompr: -15:23
James Burton: -1h27
Move 358 :1:57:48 AM

No idea how you can see the log with so much detailed information.

Do you think maybe it was a bug on part of the website?

It seems very likely it's a bug. The feature to go from real-time to turn-based I'm guessing is not used that often.

In the replay log page, scroll to the bottom and check 'display thinking time'
