The Swiss system does not work properly and does not respect the option "Try to prevent same players to be opponents twice".
It's been a year since I launched around 70 Swiss Tour Championships in 2022 and at each tournament there were flaws in the distribution of the games.
1v1 Championships : the players meet several times while it is possible to do otherwise.
Example : https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=113200 : I meet the same player in stage 15,19 and 20
Example : https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=112039 : the same, I meet the same player at stages 15,19 and 20
We are well over 20, so it is possible to avoid the same players meeting in 20 games.
Before the redesign of the Swiss system, this did not happen :
Example : https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=36325 : no duplicates and we were only 24
Multiplayer Championships:
After a certain number of games (often 5-6), the system always does the same thing: the first meets the last, the second meets the next and so on.
Example : https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=113201 : I was leader of the ranking and from a few games I systematically met the last. Practice ! I was well protected and therefore unlikely to be caught. But it's frankly not fair and we could do otherwise.
The other option proposed during the configuration does not satisfy me, because the players following each other in the ranking would systematically meet... so no mixing.
Could we change this to have more balanced competitions and less redundant encounters?
