#5 - Solo Challenge [January 2023] INACTIVE

Post by Marcus Aurelius »

Happy New Year everyone !

The Challenge of January is now active. For the first time, we will select the “random map” option. Players will play Bescods versus the automa of the month Terrans.

I will add a section "Strat" this month where I will inventory some of the best ideas.

If you are looking for a quick way to play Gaia Project on your own without any stress, armed of your cup of tea or coffee, this challenge was built for you. The goal is quite simple : get the highest score possible in solo mode. Thanks to the digital age, we can easily compare our scores with other players (same setup each month) and watch replays from the best. Start a good playlist and play serenely… No more timer pressure ! Read the “Rules” section for more details.

Image

19 players participated in the last challenge, a though one ! Niall dominated the ranking with 239 points and a gaia terraforming strat (and an impressive one). Congratulations to the elite players for reaching 200+ points and the cadets.

Scores of the month : elite rank for the top 5 players and cadets for the others.

1st step: Create a new table. Select “training mode” on the Game Mode tab and “Random map” on the Game setup tab. Choose 1 player and click on “Start game”. Click on the red box automa of the month (Terrans).
2nd step: Select the difficulty you think you can handle.
3rd step: Select the faction Bescods. Play the game.
4rd step: Post your score(s), mention the chosen difficulty (see the format below)

Optional: insert the link of the game (you can find it on your profile – tab (x) games played. Copy/paste the link of your game(s). (see the format below)
Optional: Mention which techs have been crucial for you (Terraforming, Navigation, Artificial Intelligence, Gaia Project, Economy, Science). (see the format below)
Optional: Comment your results. (see the format below)

Ideally, use this format : YourNickname Score vs AutomaLevel Score – LinkOfTheGame – Techs focus – YourComment (e.g. : Marcus Aurelius 222 vs Ultoma 165 – www.boardgamearena.com/game=12345 – Focus on Science and Terraforming until mid-game.

Hi, Happy New Year everyone.
montybojangles 147 vs Automa 117 - https://boardgamearena.com/8/gaiaprojec ... =332870005. Early nav. Knowledge was key. I miscalculated my endgame satellites and mines.

Naminu 151 vs Automa 114 https://boardgamearena.com/3/gaiaprojec ... =332936987 Some gaia-tech-points, but lost out on a lot of endgame points.

Fun time!

Thelwynn - 154-111 - https://boardgamearena.com/4/gaiaprojec ... =332978446 - knowledge focus with a nav rush, missed out on points because I mistakenly(?) didn't grab any of the advanced techs that would have been more useful for me.

Happy new year everyone!

outsider84 203 vs Ultoma 159 - https://boardgamearena.com/6/gaiaprojec ... =333287904. Early econ, switched to science 2nd turn. focused on knowledge rest of the way, and got to L5/L6 on all tracks except gaiaforming.

https://boardgamearena.com/6/gaiaprojec ... =333314484 151 - 111 (Automa)
Focused on Knowledge and Navigation. Oddly enough, didn't build a PI this game.
I tried this one a few times and was mostly getting to 120. This 150 score is a huge jump for me.

Lost 155-161 to Ultoma on my first pass. Second try:

Niall 180 vs 161 Ultoma - https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=332934538 - focus on science, nav, terraforming and AI

This one seems tricky to score highly, but I'll have to think carefully through another few goes. There are much fewer available points on boosters and technology tracks, so there's a real game to be played in maximising what is available. Very impressed with outsider84's effort >200 - well done!

Brento 211 - Automa (Normal) 114 - https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=333408166 - Science, Econ, Terraforming, Navigation in that order.

Took a few tries, as I felt I botched several previous attempts. I may have made a few mistakes here, but still my best result.

I'm a beginner doing this for fun, just to compare results with experienced players.

Went blue tech first, then orange and green, and lastly purple and gray.
h4 134, automa 120 https://boardgamearena.com/3/gaiaprojec ... =333511038

Saw the scores and gave it a second try:
Went gray then blue, only managed 2 federations.
h4 147, automa 108 https://boardgamearena.com/6/gaiaprojec ... =334497119
