I don't know. I've heard lots of "bias" arguments with randomization in BGA games. Personally, I'm really not sure however what I do know is that in certain games certain players always seem to be able to steal the right cards from me. I remember reading a feed once about going for the end card and as a laugh I tried that. To my memory whenever I have done that I always get either a shell, octopus, penguin or mermaid depending on what the player had. So if confirmation bias is what helps me win more games then I'll take it. Of course the shark swimmer combo is the best combo short of the mermaid in most games.

Last game my opponent stole 3 cards in 3 different rounds - all 3 were mermaids.
