That looks nice!
I agree, maybe a hexagonal 7-sided or 8-sided board would be interesting.
Also why not? Different shaped boards?

I found an implementation on abstractplay which allows size 10 hex boards and it's soooo much better.

Feels like we're stuck playing 9x9 go at the moment. Would love a size-10 version on BGA 🙏 (and would love to see it become the arena default!)

I definitely agree! I started playing on Abstract Play as well a few months ago and I see that already on 8-sided boards the strategy becomes deeper and even more interesting. 10-sided starts to get a bit too big, but I still enjoy it a lot.

I think the sweet spot stands on 8 or 10 sided boards, as I don't think larger ones would further improve as it's extremely hard to make points in the center and the "dead" area would become too large.
