#7 - Solo Challenge [March 2023] ENDED

Post by montybojangles »

The March solo challenge is now active. It is to play the Nevlas versus the automa of the month, the Geodens (you must select the 'Automa of the month' button), on the random map. It is important that you read the “Rules“ section for more details.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this challenge is for you. The goal is simple: have fun and get a high score in solo mode. Thanks to the BGA set-up, you can easily compare your score, watch replays of other players and learn different ways of playing a faction. Start a good playlist and play serenely at your leisure: there is no timer pressure!

Thank you to the 10 players who reported scores for the last challenge, and to the many others that tried it. Well done kespie, who topped the scores!

Scores of the month: There's elite rank for the top 5 players and cadet rank for everyone else.

  • Heraklejski 212 vs Ultoma 158 - https://boardgamearena.com/table?table=354016504 - PI and RL first turn. Terraforming 1 in the first round, concentrated on Science and Economy (for advance tech tiles). Terraforming and Navigation later game.

  • snyggis2003 182 vs Automachtig 136 - first round PI, charge 4 TT, early economy then terraforming

1st step: Create a new table. Select “training mode“ on the Game Mode tab and “Random map” on the Game setup tab. Choose 1 player and click on “Start game”. Select the red box Automa of the month (Geodens).
2nd step: Select the difficulty you think you can handle.
3rd step: Select the faction Nevlas. Check that the seed is 16776720 (in the player score panel). If it isn't, start again using the alternative starting method (below).
4th step: Play the game. Post your score(s), mentioning the chosen difficulty (see the format below).

Alternative starting method: Start the game with Random map selected >> Choose the Geodens faction card (as you would for a normal game) >> Set the custom seed (16776720 for this challenge), which is next to the heading 'Choose Automa Difficulty Level', and Select the Automa difficulty >> Choose Nevlas.

Optional: Insert the link of the game (you can find it on your profile – tab (x) games played). Copy/paste the link of your game(s) (see the format below)
Optional: Mention which tech tracks have been crucial for you (e.g. terraforming, format below)

Ideally, use this format: YourNickname Score vs AutomaLevel Score – LinkOfTheGame – Techs focus – YourComment (e.g. : Marcus Aurelius 222 vs Ultoma 165 – www.boardgamearena.com/game=12345 – focus on Science and Terraforming until mid-game).

Have fun!

A huge thank you to Marcus Aurelius for organising the first six challenges. I've learned a lot by taking part .

Scores reported. Good games. Snyggis2003 and EvoShandor, could you add links to your games?

As you are the first five to report your games, you get to become the elite - at least for a while. Thank you for taking part!

Naminu 160 vs. Automa 114 https://boardgamearena.com/3/gaiaprojec ... =352802146

On the first try I remembered why am not a big fan of Nevlas. The endgame scoring didn't work with the strategies I like to do.
On the second try I tried going for economy and a more power-focused tactics. It worked ok, but I really miss an undo-button. Twice I did things in the wrong order, which cost me a bunch of points. Got Terraforming, Range and Economy to top in tech in the end.

First try: kespie 204 vs Ultoma 158– https://boardgamearena.com/5/gaiaprojec ... =352842132 – RL+2m opening, Eco & Sci, expand later

Somewhat better: kespie 212 vs Ultoma 153 – https://boardgamearena.com/1/gaiaprojec ... =353093473 – PI+2m opening, Sci-Terra-Nav/AI. Scored well with the 2q action (using pw-->q conversions), the points booster and the vp/fed adv tech. Good power management is crucial, luckily the automa doesn't steal the good actions too early!

And indeed, big thanks to Marcus Aurelius for organizing these challenges!!
