Please stop Arena games starting without me when I'm playing turnbased games

Can someone explain how an arena game can start without me when I'm playing a turn based game? I just got expelled from a game I didn't know had started. The other player, despite seeing I was afk, kicked me rather than aborted (because they wanted the cheap points). So now I have reputation dent and lost arena points, from a game I couldn't see had started because I was playing another game. How is this fair?
