Feedback on new scoring system.

I do not like it. The physical game has a scoring model that people know already, and you've add 100 pts to that. I do not know why, but it makes no sense to me. You're even showing the "real" score right next to it, so what is the benefit?

The publisher requested it, and future physical copies of the game will include it. There is extensive discussion of it on BoardGameGeek.

Just read the tour, it's explained and the link to bgg thread is included. Not point trying to convince us, we are paid by the publisher so they have the final word

I find it fascinating how obsessed players are regarding the idea of getting a "negative score"! Arc Nova is an amazing game and offers so much depth into operating a zoo: the deck demonstrates so much research into the animals/sponsors and everything about a zoo. The scoring mechanic is one of many unique elements that the designer has clearly decided to introduce. Sadly, it is not one which is appreciated and I only hope that by changing the scoring mechanism that players are able to recognize the other incredible facets of the game! So am happy that they have made the change and hope that perhaps they will create another game where a "negative score" perhaps is the objective of the game or perhaps a facet of a game which challenges the perception of the players.

It's not unique. I can't remember which game I've seen it in before, but I've played an older game with two scoring tracks and scoring the gap between your two scoring tokens.

Score does not matter. Only winning. You could look at the score this way: Your score is how many points you lose to the leader by. So if the leader has 10 points and you have 8 points, your score is -2. If your score is -5 then your score is -15. Either way your score is negative in every game you lose. Ark Nova is one of the few games where you actually see it. Nothing bad in ending in a negative score.

The +100 thing is such a weird "fix" that actually fixes nothing. Like... you start with 100 points now. Weird.

100 points doesnt make me feel accomplished. I want to score atleast 100 trillion points /s

I would be really interested in the minds of people who actually took the time to write out this criticism so that the publisher actually caved

Raja of the Ganges (2017) does the 2 score track thing

Although I will say I don't really see the point of adding 100 to everyone scores, the publisher is allowed to do whatever they want. Honestly, it isn't much of a change to the game, so don't see why people are really hung up about it.

So is the new scoring system effectively just adding 100 points to the old scoring system?

(It would be helpful to explain the new scoring system somewhere obvious in the game interface. I gather it's in the tour, but since I've been playing the game a while, I don't take the tour anymore.)
