Hello,

About the discussion, I guess it’s not easy for everyone. A lot of people only speak their native language, or doesn’t speak English very well.
But I agree, it’s worth to say Hello :)

My guess would be that a majority of people using this platform are introverts and introverts don't really seek out small talk. I know hello is a bit more than that for many, but in this setting, it has that same feel for me - after saying it by rote many times, it feels hollow and largely pointless. I usually respond back with a hello if someone says it, but I play mostly turn-based and there are times when my hello response would come 12 hours after my opponents, and also times where I don't notice that someone has posted in the chat for a day or two, and I feel like posting hello at that point feels a bit strange. I'm also not exactly a fan of posting "gg" after every game as well - I definitely post this when I think it was a hard-fought or well-played game, but posting it every time begins to make it feel like it means nothing.

As far as chat during a game, there are some who really prefer it to NOT happen - I'm not among them, I don't really mind, but some people just want to focus on the games.

Saying Hello can be a kind of invitation to chat. For me, it's weird to say it and then just ignore everyone afterwards.

Sometimes I'm very chatty in games. Other times, I just want to play and be faceless and unsociable/focused on gameplay.

I think either is OK. But if you want a chatty game, you could always say so in the Discuss box before you open the game to others.

Bonjour!

I'm someone who also always says something small like hello, good luck, have fun. That seems like a logical thing to do for me, as I wouldn't start to play a boardgame in real life without saying anything either. That, and I just think that being kind to each other is very important. Sometimes there is chat after that, sometimes not at all.

Actually chats working horrible on mobile, especially in the app. I don't mind chatting, but when I am on my laptop. From mobile I can't even see the messages, more often than not. As many people are playing from mobile... well, maybe talking is too much of a hassle technically.
