"Quail"

Why wouldn't the word "quail" be accepted when using the American Scrabble dictionary??
The red error message made reference to some "obscure word" thing. I wish I had taken a screenshot but I thought this was really strange.

Looks like this game: https://boardgamearena.com/gamereview?table=369469377

You enabled the unique words option when you created this take so you can't reuse quail multiple times during the game. It was accepted the first time, but not subsequent times. You can disable unique words (by default it is disabled) when creating the table.

Is the unique words mentioned anywhere in the physical copy of the game?

I don't see the game settings when I go to that link, but when I look at the default game settings I'd be using when creating a new game, Unique Words is definitely not checked. I'll be sure to look at that before creating another game. (And I hadn't even remembered that I used QUAIL previously in that game, so thanks for looking it up!)

No it is not. It was added by suggestion of BGA players. It would add some challenge to romance-heavy decks.

The option is off by default.

I think it should be removed. BGA has a policy of not allowing house rules.

I also personally hate this rule. Repeating a word high scoring word is often the end result of good deck building. Why stop players from doing this? It's just bizarre.

I'd say it's because 1) it demonstrates no depth of vocabulary or talent for word-building/finding (which the game is a celebration of), and 2) because it's incredibly boring.
