Board Game Arena

QUIT MATCHING 100 level players with 400. There is no benefit for 400 level players to play that game. We win, we get 2 points. We lose we lose 25 and most of the time you get ganged on because of the difference. Please stop matching like that.

You can filter which player (good, strong, expert, …) level you want to play against/with when you create a table.

I disagree. You can play a game you enjoy, maybe learn something (a new player could use some never-before-seen strategy, or they may be an expert who just started using BGA), and you'll probably teach something just by playing.


... oh, you mean ELO? What prize do you get by having a high number next to your name? Once you earn your first victory (5 gift points that can be used for premium) and reach 100 (gives you access to Arena and tournaments), does it really matter?

I'd always assumed people care so much because you win a new car if you get to ELO 500.

I disagree w/ your disagreement . Op must be referring to arena. Arena is supposed to be competitive and it is pointless to match someone against a player they can only fail to. Especially when some of these games have like 5 different leagues you have to go through.

In regular games you can set the level for your table so this isn’t a problem. I agree about the learning experience. I have taught and been taught several games and had fun but that was the intention entering the game. If I’m looking for a competitive game I want someone on my skill level.

I disagree with your disagreement about my disagreement Talking about 100 level and 400 level sounds much more like regular ELO than Arena. I agree (!) that in the case of Arena, before reaching Elite, it matters more, but whatever the case, you always gain something, and if the ranks are accurate, what you gain or lose, weighted by the probability of winning or losing, should add up to zero.

Well, even in Arena, you can restrict the level of your opponents, so that you never have more than 0/1/2/3 leagues between you. Thus ensuring you win at least a shield in case of a victory

True. I set my restrictions to my level. I thought the function was broke for arena because in games I am 400+ I was being matched with 100s but it is because in arena it goes by arena level not elo. This doesn’t affect me that much I don’t play a ton of arena but this topic was recently made in ttr. In that game there are a lot of players and players w/ high rankings. So when you restrict to my level with elo 600+ and a top 100 ranking you can face someone with a 200 elo not in the top 1000 because you are both elite arena. In these games they get little for victory. If the goal of arena is to get as much points as possible to win then players should be put in position to get points for victories.

On the flip side what does this mean for a 200 elo player who has reached elite and they are matched w/ an expert who has no arena status? Are they heavily penalized for losing to a opponent several leagues below them even though that player is technically the better player?
