How does "... moves per day" actually work?

I'm currently not a premium member and therefore I'm usually playing with the default "2 days [per move]" setting. However, it appears to me that "2 days" actually means "2 days plus 48 hours." I'm saying that because the remaining time for the next move of a player I'm waiting is always displayed as "2 days" for two days and then changes to "48h00" and counts down from there.
Can someone explain to me how the countdown really works?
What does "2 days" exactly mean, and what does e.g. "4 moves per day" really mean?
Thanks.

It means that at the beginning of your turn you get +12 hours of time (that's where the 2 per day comes from), with a maximum of 3 days (I believe), and your time only goes down when it's your turn. Here, "your turn" means whenever you are supposed to take some action. When you see "2 days", it means anything between 2 and 3 days.

Thanks. I guess with "in the beginning" you mean at the beginning of someone's turn, right?
In that case, "2 days" at the beginning of someone's turn always means "extra time before the clock starts to count down, and then 48 hours," and we don't know how much extra time exactly (I'm quite sure it's more than 24 hours).
And in a game with "4 moves a day" It would mean the player whose turn it is has "extra time before the clock starts to count down, and then 6 hours" (and also here we don't know how much extra time exactly).
It would be great if this pattern would be explained in detail somewhere on the BGA website.

I said "at the beginning of your turn".
You you create a table (at least in the "old" lobby) and choose a turn-based option, you get the necessary info, e.g.:
Turn-based ยท 2 moves per day
+12h00 per turn (maximum 36h00)
You start the game with 36 h (you always start at the maximum). During your turn, you first get +12 h (capped at 36), and then the clock starts ticking until you make your move. Next time it's your turn, you get +12 h (capped at 36), and then the clock starts ticking until you make your move.
If with "we don't know how much extra time exactly" you mean that we can't see exactly how many hours, minutes and seconds are left, you're probably right, but you'll see that as the remaining time decreases.
