this is a good idea ... I'd even prefer a random option in there ... the current setup, where non-host always goes first is awful ...

That's just false though.
And why would it mater to choose first player ? Just use training mode, or watch the tutorial before playing, this is the usual way to teach games and it's working fine IMO.

I'm not talking about teaching .. although op mentioned it ..
having to never have any chance of going first because i seem to be the only one hosting (premium member .. more options in some games) .. seems a bit sour grapes ..

The first player IS random. Not matter who hosts or if anyone has a premium account.
Still for teaching, the option could be useful, instead of restarting a training game until you get the first player you want.

I would find this quite useful for teaching. I often teach games that I know in physical form, and it is frustrating to have someone click on random places before the game is explained. Being first would allow more explanation.
Perhaps as an option in Training Mode games, "Host is 1st player."

Seems not to be true for every game. Take Burgle Bros for example ..
If I start the game, the other play chooses the starting place, and moves first .. every time.
ergo not random

I don't know this game, but this sounds like a bug in the game set up to me
EDIT: I mean for this game specifically

It matters because the person who doesn’t know how to play can see the person who does know how to play first move and get and idea. I’m not expecting this to be added but it isn’t a bad idea.
I’ve also just done the 1st few moves to give an example/explain the game and then restart and try to do a practice real game if that is what you are suggesting.
