After beating another player with a MUCH higher ELO at Carcassone, said player called me a "scrub" in the chat. Said "Scrubs get so lucky" and "It must be nice." Seemed borderline aggressive to me. Clearly, his/her ego was bent out of shape losing to a lower-ranked player. Of course luck is always a factor in Carcassone, but I was able to pull some pretty tricky strategic moves to win (which he clearly did not anticipate) so I thought it was in poor form to dismiss the winner as someone who "got lucky." Anyway, I didn't report him - it was a mild insult at most... plus, I've never reported anyone (I'm a little put off by the whole "you might be the one getting penalized if your report is found to be invalid" or whatever). Guess I'm just venting. I've been on BGA for nearly 6 months now and overall, this seems like a pretty positive community of gamers.

Not too long ago in a game of Kingdom Builders I beat a much higher rated player. Once it was determined that I was going to win, he started complaining about how lucky I was and how unlucky he was. I told him to shut up and play. He used some profanity, but continued to the end (at least I grant him that... he did not concede or walk away).
I just red thumbed him and noted that I never want to play with him again.

IMO, reporting someone, unless it is really, really flagrant and abusive, does not do any good.

That was what I was thinking as well. Thanks for the confirmation! I like your approach to the sore loser. I'll have to try that if it happens again
