Trade Proposal Question

When I make a trade offer, the other players' hourglasses start spinning (and their timers run down) until they reject or accept my offer.

However, I have noticed that often one of the hourglasses does not turn at all - as if that player is not being asked to consider my trade offer. On the other hand, it has never happened to me before that my timer didn't start counting down when another player made an offer (even if I didn't have what the other player was asking for).

See screenshot. The hourglasses of players 2 and 3 are spinning but the hourglass of player 4 did not start spinning at all (and the timer is not running down).

Can someone explain to me why sometimes a player's hourglass doesn't spin at all after a trade offer?

Thanks, desertman

They've probably set the option to automatically reject trades, and you could do the same on the "hamburger" menu.

What and where is the "hamburger" menu?

Top-right, 3 lines.

It's rather on the player mini panel, on the right side where you can configure trade alerts (with the bell icon)

Correct. If the second part ("When it's not my turn") is not set to "Always alert me" the player gets no notification about trade proposals (which I find quite stupid), their hourglass does not spin, and their timer does not count down. I asked the player with the different setting in my game to change that setting, they did - and now their hourglass is spinning as well on new trade proposals.

From now on I will start new games always with the byline "Join only with trade alerts set to "Always alert me."

Thanks for pointing me to this.

This puzzled me too when I first saw it. It turns out that sometimes people disable trades for themselves without even knowing what it means - the language of "notifications" I've seen has made some people not understand that in a turn based game it means they will just never see that a trade was offered.

For me, it completely and totally ruins the game when anyone at the table does that, and the fact that BGA gives me no way to avoid playing with people who will do that makes this game adaptation very broken in my opinion. That's why I made this suggestion to have a table option for this:
