I love Catan, but I have been in so many games where the 7 will just keep hitting over and over. Several games where the 7 has consumed the first 4 rolls of the game.

My experience is that not only is it frustrating, slows the game down in a major way, but most importantly causes toxic and rude behavior between the players. Have you ever noticed that Catan players generally have lower karma scores? I attribute that to rage quitting caused by constant robber action.

Maybe the devs can look at the algorithm and tweak it so the robber is not a constant roll? Especially when the game has just begun... Just my thoughts and observations.

I dont think a friendly robber solves the issue. Some games are an insane amount of 7s. It unbearable. Other sites i play do not have this problem generally which is why i dont play much here anymore.

The programming of the dice in Catan is really an issue. In any game there is always a crazy number that is drawn out of range. And probably the coincidence that the number is drawn where the robber is put is also too high. I really would suggest that the programming of the dice roll is on coincidence and not based on pre-sets. It would bring fun back to this game

People complaining about randomness never ends. Confirmation bias keeps happening. The randomness is fine as it is. You just play more online and realize faster that random games like Catan are not as fun to play as any other modern board game with reduced/mitigated randomness.

people who play "friendly robber" are the worst

i block and move on.

they either complain if you play by the rules or change the rules half way through
or just constantly put on 1 person ..even though the person has 2 points but they do it out of spite
or throw tantrums right through the game

or they put it on dessert and if someone is on dessert only they lose tokens
