Board Game Arena

I'm trying to understand how Vanish works with this card. It's a 1/1 creature with Vanish and Protection. The Vanish ability states that "after the owner has suffered at least 1 damage without being destroyed, move it to the farthest position away from the bridge on it's line." However, since it only has 1 defense, 1 damage would destroy it making it seem as if Vanish would never take effect. It also has protection so the first strike is reduced to 0 but that means it would never suffer the minimum of 1 damage to activate Vanish.

At least that's what it seems like to me from reading the text. Anyone know how this works for real or is Vanish just a non-functional ability for this card?

Thanks. I haven't played with the newer cards on here very much so I had forgotten about symbiote. I was trying to figure out why a card would be designed this way.
