Pig Breeder question

Post by JustYellow »

I have played Pig Breeder on round 12 of my last game.
I immediately received a boar, but it did't breed at the end of that round. I had plenty of room for it.
Is this a bug or am I missing something?
I don't think I've ever played this card before, so I am not familiar with it.

You still need 2 boar to breed. That's the only thing I can think you may not have had.

Thank you for the reply.

The card says:
"When you play this card, you immediately get 1 wild boar. Your wild boar breed at the end of round 12 (if there is room for the new wild boar)."

Always thought it meant that the boar would breed anyway on that round, even if you have just that boar.
But now I see it. The second part of the text just means that there is an extra breeding round for the boars. Forgot that round 12 is not a breeding round normally.

I guess it makes sense, but is that really how it works?

I always assumed the same as you, that you'd get another boar at the end of Round 12. I thought it was just something to make it only worth 1 boar if played after Round 12. Thematically it's a pregnant pig that you're getting.

Doesn't help that the term 'wild boar' is both singular and plural. Lost in translation?

Remember, cards only counter basic rules if they specifically say so. Also, Pig Breeder can be played at any time, but it only gets you one extra breeding phase (end of round 12) as long as you have at least 2 boar and room for the newborn. So it does not violate any other basic rules, including the need for 2 animals to breed. And yes, I can see how this might cause some confusion.
