#11 - Solo Challenge [July 2023] ENDED

Post by montybojangles »

The July solo challenge is now active. It is to play the Taklons versus the automa of the month, the Itars (you must select the 'Automa of the month' button), on the Random map. Check that the seed in the automa score panel is 16882128. It is important that you read the “Rules“ section for more details, especially if the seed is not 16882128.

Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this challenge is for you. The goal is simple: have fun and get a high score in solo mode. Thanks to the BGA set-up, you can easily compare your score, watch replays of games and learn different ways of playing a faction. (There's more guidance on how to view replays at/near the end of the May challenge.) Play serenely at your leisure: there is no timer pressure!

A big thank you to those who contributed scores and comments to an exciting June challenge. Congratulations to our new chart-topper, pepealas.

There's elite rank for the top 5 players and cadet rank for everyone else.

  • kespie 280 vs Automa 116 - https://boardgamearena.com/8/gaiaprojec ... =395037327 - 2RL+2M opening, then 2 Acs, then mine spree. Eco focus, eco adv tech, then nav (with lost planet), finally terra and AI. Constantly low on power tokens for maximum leverage of brainstone.

1st step: Create a new table. Select “training mode“ on the Game Mode tab and “Random map” on the Game setup tab. Choose 1 player and click on “Start game”. Select the red box Automa of the month (Itars).
2nd step: Select the difficulty you think you can handle.
3rd step: Select the faction Taklons. Check that the seed is 16882128 (in the player score panel). If it isn't, start again using the alternative starting method (below).
4th step: Play the game. Post your score(s), mentioning the chosen difficulty (see the format below).

Alternative starting method: Start the game with Random map selected >> Choose the Itars faction card (as you would for a normal game) >> Set the custom seed (16882128 for this challenge), which is next to the heading 'Choose Automa Difficulty Level', and Select the Automa difficulty >> Choose Taklons.

Players usually insert the link of their game (you can find it on your profile – tab (x) games played) and mention which tech tracks and other actions have been crucial for them (e.g. terraforming).

Ideally, use this format: YourNickname Score vs AutomaLevel Score – LinkOfTheGame – Techs focus – YourComment (e.g. : Marcus Aurelius 222 vs Ultoma 165 – www.boardgamearena.com/game=12345 – focus on Science and Terraforming until mid-game, with aim of taking advanced tile on terraforming).

Have fun!

It's the first time the Taklons will have been played in a solo challenge. Interesting map! I wonder if 225 might be enough to win this.

Update: that's a terrible prediction. My first attempt is montybojangles 215 vs Automa 116 - as a teaser I'll share the game later - but that includes an easy 7 points missed because of a stupid conversion.

I think even 250 might be not enough here, Taklons charging is too powerful.

My very first try is DarknessFoverer 218 vs Automa 116 - Academy start, science followed by range and terraforming.

3 federations look rather poor to me, and Academy + 2 mines on turn 1 might be improved here.

First try... kespie 245 vs 116 Automa - https://boardgamearena.com/7/gaiaprojec ... =392764006 - mostly economy, economy adv tile, round bonuses and qic actions. Ended up with only three (badly planned) natural feds and way too many satellites :D, four feds is probably achievable and better.

Jonash87cz 183, Automa 116. (first try)

Academy R1, no PI.

Economy (an advanced tech tile for each research step), Navigation, Science and Terraforming. 3 feds created.

I think went for navigation wasn't the right choice.

Pepealas 247 vs automa 119. https://boardgamearena.com/8/gaiaprojec ... =392997460

Maybe we have to do a 4th city and get more tiles. Still a lot of resources left.

Here's my second try, four feds this time and not bothering with science. It should be interesting to try a science approach as well, but then probably combined with gaiaforming (?).

kespie 265 vs 116 Automa - https://boardgamearena.com/7/gaiaprojec ... =393095593 - 2RL+1M opening, Eco, eco adv tile, a bit more focus on expansion and still playing the round and booster bonuses and not forgetting about qic actions.
