Abandon vs Concede in Arena

In a 2-player Arena game a player proposed to collectively abandon the game with only 2 cards to go rather than conceding. As I understand it abandoning would treat the game as if it never happened whereas conceding would mean the ELO points adjustment for a loss would still apply? Am I right in this? If so, this would seem to be a way to game the ELO system and seemed rather unfair.

Well, the losing player can propose to collectively abandon. It is certainly bad style and a cheap trick. But there is no way to "game the Elo system" as the other player needs to accept the offer. Obviously one player cannot decide on their own to collectively abandon the game.

Yes sorry, I think I've phrased that badly. Obviously I did not accept the abandon, but just considering the poor form of offering it in the first place. I wanted really to ascertain whether my understanding of the consequence of the offer to abandon was correct. It certainly didn't seem to be in the spirit of fair play on BGA.

Its a last desperate attempt to avoid the defeat counting against them
.
Decline the abandonment in arena every time. Its supposed to be competitive.

I just had this happen. Is this not a rules violation?

I think abandon should be forbidden in arena games.

Why? Someone might have a legitimate reason for abandoning. Of it they don't just refuse. If they become abusive about it *that* would be a rules violation and you can report it.

Please review the first sentence of the OP (emphasis mine): "In a 2-player Arena game a player proposed to collectively abandon the game with only 2 cards to go rather than conceding." That is why. My opponent in a 2P game proposed it when I could win on my next move, and the game would be over within 3 moves even if I didn't. There is no realistic possibility of this being explained by a legitimate reason, and this entire thread is dedicated to abandonment proposals when there is no reasonable legitimate reason.
Of it they don't just refuse.
I did. That does not stop the behavior from being unsportsmanlike and problematic, or potential misclicked forfeiture of ranked would-be wins.
If they become abusive about it *that* would be a rules violation and you can report it.
The BGA reporting mechanism presents a tree of options and sub-options through one must click. I see no option there to even obliquely specify this kind of behavior. That is the reason I came here, searched for a relevant thread, and asked if it's a rules violation. I still don't see how it is, or if so, how I can actually report it.

While I agree that it is probably somewhat of poor sportmanship to ask to abandon rather than concede when you're close to the end of a game you're about to lose, it is within the rules of play that they can. It's also within the rules that you can refuse their request to abandon. Neither of those behaviours is reportable.

However, if you refuse a request to abandon and your opponent starts abusing you for doing so, the abusing behaviour is reportable. If that's not happening, say no to the abandon request, finish your game, and move on.

No. As with many other posters you came here wishing to have your own incorrect position validated. You have been told perfectly clearly it is not a rules violation, you have no reason to believe it is a rules violation, it would be a very silly rule if it did exist for reasons already pointed out, and you have a perfectly reasonable recourse.
