"Teaching Game" mode

A mode like Arena/Tournaments/Simple Play that would allow players to learn by playing.

Sometimes tutorials teach you the basics of playing a game, but can't obviously give you real life experience about "best moves" in every game.

I'm proposing that there be an option for beginners/players who want to improve their games to be matched against a (willing) high ranking player of the game, and for a game to be played as a teaching game.

Obviously no effect on ELO or points etc (although teachers could maybe earn points to rate their teaching if it goes well - so you know how well a teacher they've been in other games). And I know that many high ranking players probably wouldn't want to do it, so it must be an "opt-in" system.

For me, for example, there are a couple of games I absolutely love playing. I've done the tutorials, watched a couple of you-tube "how to play" this, but it seems I can't choose the best options when faced with choices in a real time game situation (or turn based). A teaching game where someone who is more experienced and good at the game, could go "well, this is the one I'd pick if I was you, and this is why...." It's easy to do in real life - and the more BGA develops, the more it can begin to feel like a RL gaming place.

And we'd probably both benefit. The teacher would get ratings (?) and I'd learn better techniques.

I don't think (apart from the matching system) that the actual game play would need to be any different from a standard "Simple Game". The teaching would all be done through the chat function.

Just putting it out there as an idea.

You can switch to "Friendly game mode", then there is no ELO loss/win and no penalty for quitting the game.

I know about friendly game mode, but that isn't implied "teaching"..

It could be a variation on friendly mode - Teaching mode could link up experienced players who *want* to help newbies/learners/improvers and those who want to improve. Friendly mode doesn't really imply that.
