Matchmaking issues in Arena Mode

In every single other game I played that had an ELO/ranking system (TFT, Mtg Arena, LoL etc) the matchmaking tends to pair people against opponents of similar rank.
However in Arena mode it seems like my friend who is in Bronze, and gf who is in Gold get paired with elite players extremely often, which obviously creates quite a frustrating experience.
On the other side I'm currently rank 40 and would to love get paired with 18XX players to learn and have a tough challenge, instead I mostly get paired with ~Silver players to get 6 points curbstomping them, which is not fun for either side really.
Are there any plans to change the matchmaking or is this the point of Arena to match people with vastly different ELOs?

Arena is not specific to ArkNova in any way. Try posting in a more general forum.

I am a bronze player with a 25% winrate and despite filtering out anyone higher than average I am still only getting matched with good or better players, currently they are gold nearly elite and I am lowest bronze. Either I missing something or the matchmaking isn't working that well

This is also extremely anoying for high rated players. Also, it makes me feel like being premium is a disadvantage, since it's more likely a lower rated player don't have a premium account.

I have Premium and i still Play highly ranked Elite Players nearoy all the time.
ITS Just stupid that No mmr is used at all in Arena mode

I am premium and pathetically average!!!!
That's more a reflection that I think BGA is totally deserving of support and I'm at a point where the cost is not an issue (versus say when I was in college). To the point where I stopped playing for a year and deliberately decided to continue to support the site.
But anyway, here's to average!

If both players agree you can cancel the game. I think that is the only thing you can do. If it is 500 vs 100 ELO then both might agree. So you might just ask if they want to play.
I do not think arena player base is large enough for anything else.

I will note, after thinking, that the fact that I am premium, bronze, and perpetually ranked against ridiculously high players suggests that premium aren't at a disadvantage, else I would be matched with more folks on my range.

I have a similar thread on here (not sure how to link but it's only a couple of threads below this one)and someone replied with a potential solution - there are different filters available if you go through Play Now rather than Games/My favourites.
It took a while to find the right filter and I've only tried it once so I can't say for sure if it always works, but it looks good so far - it took maybe 30 mins or more to find a match and we've only had a few turns but they appear to be a similar level.

Can we also talk about how stupid a pure elo system is for a high variance game? Like, how can I lose 2 games of progress for tieing a strong player?
