Board Game Arena

Hello,

im really annoyed and frustrated by the non existant matchmaking in arena mode.

you basicaly just play anyone, no matter if he or she is 100000 points above you in leagues and elo or below you and that leads to really frustrating games, especialy in skill based games.

I know not a single online game, anywhere in this world, which does not use any kind of matchmaking in its most competetive mode.

just imagine in chess, if a newbie would instantly play vs 10 grandmasters in a row, because they just get randomly paired.


one argument for not using matchmaking in arena i hear a lot is that there are not enough players, and the waiting times would be too big.

but honestly: i would glady wait 5 minutes for a game, if i then get an opponent who is not 1000x times better or worse than me.
you could even make this an option you can activate. anyone who is not willing to wait longer can still just get matched against random opponents, but anyone who wants a fair fight, should have the option to "activate" matchmaking.

5 minutes? Well, maybe if you play only the most popular game, you can call 5 min "a long wait".

The longest I have waited for an Arena match is half a day (close to 12 hours). So it seems it would be closer to waiting for two days for a match if matching is made more strict.

I have started 4 arena searches about 2 hours ago. At the moment only one of them matched, others are still going. No, the problem is not waiting for 5 minutes, the problem is finding an opponent at all. Isn't it better to play several games in a row against someone better and learn, become better and start winning, than spend the same several hours looking at "searching for a match" message?
