Switching to English because I don't think I'm able to explain this coherently in French. Here's how to create a round-robin tournament with staggered start time. First create the tournament and fill in all the options, and click "Save". Let's say I've set the number of players at 5, and the maximum game duration at 30 days. Now each player is supposed to play 4 games. After you click "Save", you'll see an "Admin panel". Click "Edit match dates". Now it lets you set five dates for a match to begin. It's weird though, each player is only playing four games, so why five dates? And also, I've already set the date for the very first match, so I would expect to be able to set three additional dates, not five. Then the trick is, that in this "Edit match dates" page, the first date that you set has to come at least 30 days after the tournament start date. So in my example (
https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=231564 ) the tournament start date is August 21, and I set match 1 to begin on September 21. It's not a very good system. Vote for this bug, maybe it will get fixed eventually:

Hi Matthew. Thank you very much for your explanation about editing match dates.
I want to be sure I get it right for a tournament I have already created.
Please look at it here:
https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=261165
As you can see it has groups of 4 and starts on 17th January 2024.
So if I use the "Edit match dates" page, am I correct in assuming that if I enter 2nd February for the second matches to begin and 18th February for the third matches to begin then each player will get just one opponent at a time on 17th January, 2nd February and 18th February?
Then, as it is a two stage tournament will the second stage with the Swiss System start on the 5th March automatically without me having to enter a further date, or will the "Edit match dates" option not work with tournaments with two stages?
Furthermore, if somebody withdraws from the tournament before it starts so there are less than the maximum of 64 players will that result in the tournament failing to start because of using the Edit match dates option?
I would greatly appreciate your guidance with this as I do not want to crash the tournament after I have put a great deal of time & effort into getting it full with 64 players!

Yes, that assumption would be correct if you had edited the match dates immediately after you created the tournament, before opening it up to registration. I believe that after players have registered, you can't edit the dates. You can attempt it, in case I'm wrong, but I think it will just tell you that you can't do it.
Then, as it is a two stage tournament will the second stage with the Swiss System start on the 5th March automatically without me having to enter a further date, or will the "Edit match dates" option not work with tournaments with two stages?
Hmmm, typically stage 2 starts automatically as soon as all games of stage 1 are complete. That's what happens if you don't enter any match dates at all. Your question is, what if you've entered matched dates for stage 1, then will stage 2 still begin automatically when stage 1 is complete? I believe the answer is yes.
Furthermore, if somebody withdraws from the tournament before it starts so there are less than the maximum of 64 players will that result in the tournament failing to start because of using the Edit match dates option?
At the time of tournament creation you enter a minimum number of players. In the case of your tournament, I can see that the minimum is 32, maximum 64. There are 64 entered right now; if one player withdraws before the start time on the 17th the tournament will still proceed. (It's only if enough people withdraw that it drops below the minimum of 32 entrants, that it would be cancelled.) If someone withdraws so that the tournament begins with 63 players instead of 64, then one of the 16 groups would have 3 players instead of 4.

Thank you very much for your prompt & detailed reply once again Matthew.
I gave "Edit match dates" a try for the tournament I highlighted & you were correct in saying it is not allowed once a single player has registered for the tournament. I'll give it another try when I create some more tournaments.
Just one last query. I assume I do not have to put the date a tournament opens as the first date on the "Edit match dates" page, but instead the date I want the second matches in the tournament to commence. Eg In the tournament I highlighted I should not put the 17th January 2024 as the first date even though the top option on the "Edit match dates" page is "Match 1:". Instead I should put 2nd February as both you & I agreed. That is rather confusing I think. Maybe it should be labelled "Match 2:" to save any confusion?
Round robin with games played sequentially rather than all at once

Just to follow up, I should note that the system described works where the tournament type is Round robin, but not (as far as I can tell) if the tournament type is "Groups stage" with Round robin as first stage. I reported that as a bug:
https://boardgamearena.com/bug?id=116909 (currently only 3 votes).
Here's a round robin tournament which has just begun:
https://boardgamearena.com/tournament?id=280706 This has 9 entrants, so each will play 8 times, and the tournament will have 36 matches in total. You can see at the moment, the 36 games are all listed on the tournament page, with 4 labelled "In progress" and the other 32 labelled "To be played". BGA has already assigned table numbers to all the games, and the start dates are indicated on each table's web page. For example,
table #494357861 will start in July and
table #494358171 will start in December.
