What do you use to evaluate your performance in games?

I’ve heard about the simple statistic of looking at the number of dice rolls compared to your opponent (higher is better).
And there’s a way to compare your own performance to the average and top players, but I’ve not found that one super helpful.
(Although you can see whether you like to target armour more than infantry for example)

What are things others use? Would love to hear your thoughts!

Over the years I've found reviewing the replays to be most helpful. You can more clearly see a key move by your opponent or a mistake you made that impacted the outcome. Hindsight is 20-20, don't beat yourself up just try to learn from it.

Number of dice rolls can be misleading because it's also a reflection of better cards.

To evaluate my performance in games? Won/lost.

For the Ladder on Vassal, I used to keep a ratings spreadsheet that factored in medals difference and (to a lesser extent) figures difference. The formula uses exponents to give more credit for bigger wins, and there's a bonus for sweeping the match. I tuned the coefficients and exponents to give results that seemed sensible.

But because the process wasn't automated, it failed the "simple" test and I eventually stopped updating it.

Very good question.

I guess I think about how well I played with the cards I was dealt and the dice I rolled (or the dice that were rolled for me).
Was I able to develop a strategy, implement it and see it succeed?

Did I read my opponent's developing strategy and was I able to counter it?

Of course, with Memoir 44 one often gets dealt unhelpful cards in the wrong section (a hand full of probes comes to mind) and dice that roll infantry hits on armour and armour hits on infantry.

For me the question is answered with "Did I maximise my potential with the units, cards & dice I had versus the units and cards and dice my opponent had?"

Sometimes that means while getting thumped I managed a unit elimination of two of my own.
